"Nature Desdoblada" Miriam Medrez 2014

Miriam Medrez (1958) was student aan de CUM in Canada. Ze studeerde tevens af in Fine Arts aan UNAM Mexico en was universitair docent aan de ABK en Vormgeving in Jeruzalem Israël. De kunstenaar woont in San Pedro Garza Garcia Mexico.

Dit prachtige textielwerk was winnaar van de Contextile 2014 Acquisition Award. Deze prijs werd uitgereikt tijdens de Biënnale van de Hedendaagse Textielkunst. Een tweejaarlijks evenement georganiseerd door Instituut Guimarães Design Portugal & Platform Textielkunst Madrid, Spanje met het doel de ontwikkeling van een Iberisch netwerk en de verspreiding van textielkunst evenals de promotie van textielkunst in het algemeen. www.contextile.pt

The problems we face today on planet Earth are not easy to solve. Unfortunately problems like war, crime and discrimination are as old as the world itself and they are no white, yellow, red or black privilege.

History teaches that people keep ignoring the fact that we are essentially all equal. Despite the differences in race, gender or nationality. 

Maybe we do not like it or do not want to agree with it, but still we all come from the same source. No one is the same, but we all belong to the human race. And that's why we are all equal. 

Actually we are all brothers and sisters, essentially one global family. There are connections at a deeper level, therefore respect, empathy and understanding are important in relationships. They affect everything. We humans are co-creators of this world. According to Eckhart Tolle, the new consiousness 'that we live in oneness with the whole' will become reality.

de magische tuin van studio krjst

De monumentale weefsels van KRJST zijn een combinatie van digitale en weeftechnieken, ontwikkeld in het TextielLab van het Textielmuseum Tilburg. De weefsels verbinden natuur en architectuur.

Voor Maasmechelen Village in België werden er in oktober 2017 vier installaties ontwikkeld. Op het plein aan de Klokkentoren en het Hoofdplein zijn met sneeuw bedekte bergen omringd door exotische planten en gekristalliseerd water. Aan de Boog van het Tourist Information Centre is een kunstwerk dat een symbiose van de elementen kristal, vuur en brons voorstelt. Aan de ingang van de Driehoekspoort liggen kristallen bloemen in het water. En de multi-zintuiglijke galerij exposeert vinyls en wandbekleding.

Frédéric Becker componeerde speciaal voor deze galerij muziek, geïnspireerd op de kunstwerken.
De ruimte is dagelijks open tussen 11 en 19 uur. Er is ook een geweven kunstinstallatie die uitnodigt om aangeraakt te worden. Verder staan er twee bevroren geometrische sculpturen. Het zijn sneeuwrijke bergen bedekt met planten en lantaarns die bezoekers begeleiden door de magische tuin.    www.studiokrjst.com

Sheila Hicks has become a leading international voice in the world of contemporary fiber and textile art. In addition to her remarkable oeuvre, which includes a vast assortment of two and three-dimensional fiber and textile objects, Hicks has founded educational workshops in multiple countries. She has previously worked in Morocco and India, and currently lives and works in Paris and New York. Shinique Smith - Arcadian Cluster (detail), 2006

Baltimore-born Shinique Smith derives her inspiration from found and discarded consumer products. Her use of textiles often manifests as stunningly complex and colorful accumulations. Transforming existing textiles into raw material, she creates new abstract forms that possess dual identities: part formal exploration of texture, surface, color and form, and part biomorphic, anthropomorphic entity.
