Still in love with the world, with the sun, the moon, the stars and the planets' is an art installation in progress using found objects and recycled materials.

The mini textile objects with vintage (copper) bells & (wooden) beads, which contribute to the circular textile chain with their new life, are transformed together into a call for a sustainable, fun and creative way of life. It is an installation that, with mixed textile processes, also evokes the restoration of our connection with each other and the world as a whole.

Ghizlane Sahli is a Maroccan textile artist. She creates with her team three-dimensional embroidery sculptures and installations made from bottle caps covered with silk thread.

Recycling and re-use strongly underlies her production, as she often uses plastic and garbage material (for example bottles). In her work the relation with the waste is more spiritual than environmental.

For the artist garbage is universal as every society produces waste. This waste is the reject from the society. When Ghislane uses it, she has that feeling that each object had a soul and a previous life. She transmutes the waste using the silk with the idea that each alveoles bring it’s own energy, and the accumulation of all the different energies becomes the artwork with its own emotion and own energy. The different steps collecting, washing, cutting, embroidering and making the artworks are all very meditative. The same gesture is repeated many, many times with no intellectuality. It becomes like a trance.

De poëtische wandeling met 

100 beeldend kunstenaars en 100 taalkunstenaars - succesvol tentoongesteld geweest achter de ramen van de FENIXLOODS in  Katendrecht -  is aan haar eerste reis begonnen en 

verhuist binnenkort naar het prachtige partyschip de SS ROTTERDAM op het 3de Katendrechtse Hoofd 25. 

Het voormalige vlaggenschip van de Holland-Amerikalijn voer 60 jaar geleden voor het eerst in acht dagen met 1.200 passagiers aan boord naar New York en functioneert nu alweer pakweg 10 jaar aan de kade van haar thuishaven als partyschip en hotel.

De gelamineerde foto's van alle kunstwerken worden samen met de bijbehorende gedichten in het weekend van 28 en 29 augustus tentoongesteld op de voormalige Oceansteamer. Daarna vervolgt de expositie haar kunstzinnige reis naar Kiev en naar Antwerpen. Aan een kunstboek wordt intussen gewerkt!

E.e.a. is een uit de hand gelopen initiatief van Theo Huijgens (beeldend kunstenaar) en Joz Knoop (stadsdichter) van cultuurplatform Werklicht Rotterdam.

Complotdenken in de zeventiende eeuw: hekserij veroorzaakte ziekten en rampen. Een avontuurlijk verhaal op basis van bestaande personen, brieven en processtukken over de massale heksenjacht in het Duitse bisdom Bamberg. De jonge vrouw Eva ontmoet op de vlucht voor ‘heksenbisschop’ Förner diens tegenstander, de jezuïet pater Spee. Hij schreef een boek tegen de vervolgingen, maar mag dat van zijn orde niet zelf publiceren. Met haar gezelschap onderneemt Eva een gevaarlijk tocht. Het Heksenhuis is een pakkend geheel van fictie vermengd met feiten, deels bibliomysterie, deels road novel.

Auteur en historicus Jacqueline Zirkzee schreef romans over de oudheid en de middeleeuwen. Het Heksenhuis speelt zich af in de 17e eeuw, evenals haar voc-roman Reimer (De Brouwerij 2013). Bij Uitgeverij de Brouwerij verscheen ook De eerste priesteres (2020), een roman over de oorsprong van onze beschaving.

Historici denken dat alleen al in Europa tussen de 30.000 en 60.000 heksen zijn geëxecuteerd in de periode van 1330 tot 1720. Dit betekent dat er iedere week één of twee heksen werden vermoord. Vrouwen werden om de meest raadselachtige redenen van hekserij beschuldigd en via rechtspraak naar de brandstapel verbannen. Volgens de complotdenkers van die tijd werden de slachtoffers verantwoordelijk gehouden voor misoogsten en besmettelijke ziekten. Ze werden ervan beschuldigd geheime bijeenkomsten te houden met de Duivel en ze zouden babyvlees eten. Om te zorgen dat ze de namen van hun mededeelnemers aan het vermeende heksensabbat noemden, was marteling geoorloofd. 

Complotdenkers zijn mensen die in samenzweringen geloven en die achter elke autoriteit een intrige vermoeden. Angst en complot denken kunnen leiden tot een scheeflopend rechtssysteem, censuur en een wildgroei aan idiote ideeën over bijvoorbeeld de verspreiding van ziekten of geboren worden met horentjes. Deze klassieke conspiratietheorie achtervolgt de Joden al eeuwenlang. De gevolgen van de meest beruchte complotdenker Hitler zijn bekend, en niet alleen voor de Joden. En passant stortte zijn ideologie de hele wereld in een ongekende tragedie. 

De hedendaagse complot-denk-partij van dansleraar Willem Engel wordt gesteund in zijn ideeën door o.a. BIJ1-leider Sylvana Simons die, samen met de politieke DENK-partij, het manifest tegen antisemitisme weigerde te tekenen. We hebben het over partijen met leiders die zich gediscrimineerd voelen, die zich niet gehoord voelen en er niet voor terugdeinzen konkelarij theorieën aan te hangen. Oude negatieve oerkrachten worden steeds weer opnieuw opgerakeld en als een duistere regen over de wereld uitgegoten. 

Niets nieuws onder de zon. Vrouwen en mannen worden vandaag de dag niet meer naar de brandstapel verbannen. Er is een andere manier gevonden om mensen te vernederen, om hen de mond te snoeren. Politici krijgen veel online haat, maar de vrouwelijke collega's aanzienlijk meer en merkwaardig vaker persoonlijker. 

D66 politicus Sigrid Kaag kreeg duizenden anonieme haatreacties op twitter. De intelligente en bekwame vakvrouw, of je het nou met haar opvattingen eens bent of niet, ontving van alle vrouwelijke volksvertegenwoordigers de meeste haatreacties die haar kinderen akelige angsten bezorgden  Ondanks dat vrouwen in Europa steeds meer de wet aan hun zijde hebben, wordt er vandaag de dag ook in Nederland nog steeds oude wijn in nieuwe zakken gegoten zoals bleek uit onderzoek van de Groene Amsterdammer.

Ian Trask is a scientist-turned-artist. His sculptures transform materials of waste and commercial byproducts into refined aesthetic objects through an alchemistic procedure of reinterpreting a material’s value and usefulness.

In many of Trask’s sculptures, the viewer will find a mischievous invitation. Texture and tangibility are essential to the experience of these objects, and by provoking the impulse to explore, each piece rouses in the beholder the same spirit of curiosity, experimentation and play that occasioned their creation.

Ian received his degree in biological science from Bowdoin College in 2005. Following graduation he worked several years as a technician in various research labs and in 2007 Ian decided he wanted to leave the world of science to pursue a career in the fine arts. Leaving his job in the laboratory, Ian worked as a hospital groundskeeper cleaning up trash daily, an experience that proved to be formative in his artistic development. Ian saw the artistic potential in the waste he was confronted with everyday and quickly began working with discarded manufactured goods as the main platform for his pieces.

The preparations for the large showcase-art-project inside and outside Cultural Platform Fenixloods are in full swing. Window-Art-in-Katendrecht, the former red light district, is from June 10 (start Poetry International) to July 4, 2021 (end Art Rotterdam).

There will be poetry performances near the Fenix1, Veerlaan 21, Rotterdam 3072 AN, The Netherlands. These performances are part of Poetry International and in collaboration with StoryHouse Belvédère.

The 2019 summer exhibition in Museum Maassluis celebrated 100 years of feminism in the Netherlands.

Over the past century, women all over the world have fought for their freedom. And this has still not been realized in many countries or in certain businesses. 

In this struggle it is not only about women but about all fellow human beings, because you cannot be free when others are oppressed or discriminated against.

I definitely don't support the conspiracy theory, but in these pandemic times that can cause both illness and confusion, we need our intuition. With so many different ideas about the covid-19 virus, it is necessary to be able to fly above all theories to develop a solid opinion.

Intuition is the ability to acquire knowledge  without recourse to conscious reasoning. Different fields use the word 'intuition' in very different ways, including but not limited to: direct access to unconscious knowledge; unconscious cognition; inner sensing; inner insight to unconscious pattern-recognition; and the ability to understand something instinctively, without any need for conscious reasoning.

The word intuition comes from the Latin verb intueri translated as 'consider' or from the late middle English word intuit, 'to contemplate'.

Textile has a universal female voice

Dutch Ida Brookhart is a visual artist who mainly works with (vintage) textiles and waste. In her wall objects she transforms discarded yarns and strips of textile into artistic objects by reinterpreting the versatility of the material. The artist’s choice of materials communicates her concern with issues around  consumerism, inequality and the environment.

In much of Brookhart's art, the viewer finds a playful appeal. It feels important to her to mix the different disciplines such as weaving, crochet, pleated, origami and acrylic so that each piece awakens in the viewer the spirit of curiosity and play that led to their creation. It also showcases Brookhart's vibrant appeal with experimental materials.

Art-Rotterdam juli 2021:
Cultureel platform Werklicht Rotterdam-Zuid (Theo Huijgens, beeldend kunstenaar en Joz Knoop, stadsdichter) is bezig met een coronaproof expositie te realiseren: het Vitrine Project in de Fenixloods. Raamkunst op Katendrecht.

Het voornemen van de initiatiefnemers is om van de tentoongestelde kunst met de bijbehorende gedichten een boekuitgave te verzorgen.
Om dit project te ondersteunen en te kunnen uitvoeren heeft TheoHuijgens handtekeningen nodig van bewoners uit Katendrecht. 

De aan het water gelegen wijk, voorheen de rosse buurt, staat tegenwoordig bekend om de eet- en entertainmentplekken, zoals de Fenix Food Factory en theater Walhalla, die zich vestigden in de voormalige pakhuizen.

Katendrecht, gelegen tussen Rijnhaven en Maashaven, vroeger Chinatown, zeemanskwartier en hoerenbuurt, is nu home of the foodies & the hip. Het schiereiland heeft zich in een paar jaar tijd ontpopt tot een van de meest swingende zones van de stad, zonder z’n ruige rafelrandjes te verliezen.

Aan het uit de hand gelopen coronaproof initiatief, dat zich als een explosie van kunstuitingen achter het glas van Fenixloods1  manifesteert, doen 100 beeldende kunstenaars mee, waaronder Ida Brookhart, Theo Huijgens, Gabrielle Marie en 100 dichters, zoals de hoogedelachtbare Ahmed Aboutaleb, burgemeester van Rotterdam en Joz Knoop.

Mixed media artwork 'The Newborn' has been invited to participate in the Art-Rotterdam showcase project, which transforms Cultural Platform 'Fenixloods' into a showcase full of art and poetry. The project is organized by Cultural Platform 'Werklicht': Theo Huijgens, visual artist & Joz Knoop, city poet. The intention is to laminate an image of the artwork with the accompanying poem side by side on A3 format, so that it forms a whole. This fusion is applied to the inside of the windows for visitors to admire this fusion of art from the outside.
After Art-Rotterdam, the exhibition travels abroad and an art book of the participants is in the making!
