FUNERAL ECSTASY – The Paradise –

The Paradise marks the beginning of FUNERAL ECSTASY, a series questioning the conventional notions of endings. Can we accept the fact that everything lasts only for a limited period of time? The Paradise urges us to reflect on the impact of the cyclical nature of life. Is it a celebration, a guided meditation, or a rave for the end?
The Paradise encourages heightened awareness of the present moment, emphasizing the value in each passing second. In a performative installation the audience is led through an ebb and flow, oscillating between darkness and light, intensity and tranquility; a collective experience, perceived individually. HipSick is a Rotterdam based interdisciplinary crew which operates at the intersection of performance and installation art. From a fascination with the fringes and night culture, HipSick explores and questions societal developments and normativity. The Paradise evolved through research presentations and co-creation with the audience.

Ida taught teenagers and young adults in highschool for many years and wrote columns about the cosmos and everyday life. For a long time she has been involved with contemporary art and has curated textile art exhibitions. Hipsick Unusual Theatre has started working on the latest performance FUNERAL ECSTASY —a new series that challenges conventional perspectives on ending. The first installment, The Paradise, delves into the theme of impermanence, inviting us to reflect on the temporary nature of life. FUNERAL ECSTASY invites to ponder the essence of the end—the moment when things reach their conclusion. Through the work, Hipsick aims to unravel the deeper meanings behind our temporality and its profound impact on our existence.

During a series of research presentations you as an audience will be involved to give your input surrounding certain research questions. Become co-creator of The Paradise which is part of a new series of work called FUNERAL ECSTASY.
The end result of the performance 'The Paradise" will see its first light in February 2024.

Welcome to the Art-festival 701 with art by 300 artists for a children's home in Ukraine! Thursday 9 February 4 pm and SUNDAY 12 February at 2 pm 2023 there is a wonderful performance entitled 'Samoe Said To Constance'.

During the exhibition of paintings, drawings, graphics, spatial, textile work and films, there is an interesting side program with musicians, poets, performances and spoken word. Viewing days from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 February from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Entrance is free.

The duo-tapdance performance with Constance van Duinen and Lance Spring takes place in the Simulator FMB1 (the simulation room of the former Shipping College) at Wilhelminakade 701 Rotterdam South, opposite the Fotomuseum in the trendy heart of Rotterdam. PINK PARADE 2023 installation is part of Rotterdam Art, Wilhelminakade 701, Rotterdam-South (next to the famous Hotel New York) with approximately 1000 works of art by 300 artists, including a number of contemporary Ukrainian artists.

Much of the art on display is being auctioned for an orphanage in hard-hit Ukraine. During the exhibition of paintings, drawings, graphics, spatial, textile work and films, there is an interesting side program with musicians, poets, performance and spoken word. Viewing days from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 February from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Entrance is free.

Opening Thursday February 9 at 3 pm by the Ukrainian ambassador followed by a interesting performance by duo Met Constance & Lance.

The art festival is an initiative of artists collective WERKLICHT Rotterdam in collaboration with Karmijn artists, Kaapse Kringen, About A Woman art, gallery Niffo and Verhalenhuis Belvédère.

'Intuïtion'

As part of Art Rotterdam 2023, Werklicht artist's collective, Karmijn artists, Kaapse Kringen, About A woman, Verhalenhuis Belvédère and Niffo gallery are organizing a joint art festival with contemporary visual art.

At number 701 there is an exhibition with works by 300 artists: drawings, graphics, textile & spatial work and films. The festival has an interesting side program with musicians, poets, performance and spoken word. All this in the trendy new heart of Rotterdam.

Many artworks will be auctioned during one or two auction dinners in early April and 75% of the proceeds will benefit orphans in hard-hit Ukraine. The exhibition functions as viewing days for this event.

Location exhibition: Wilhelminakade 701, Rotterdam-S, next to the famous Hotel New York. Entrance is free from 9 - 12 February. Opening hours: 11.00- 19.00.

The covid-19 virus seems to be on its way back. We don't get that sick anymore after being infected, but it's good to stay careful.

I absolutely do not support the conspiracy theory, especially the racist part has very little level. In these pandemic times, which can still bring both illness and confusion, we need our intuition. The big question is: what do we connect with?

2021: WERKLICHT ArtBook

What a beautifully designed book this has become! The cover by Rens Muis of 75B Katendrecht. Publication by StoryHouse Belvédère Rotterdam. Project of artist collective WERKLICHT. At a glance, a visual work with accompanying poem can be seen - read. It was great to have participated in this with Ida-Brookhart-Contemporary-Art. My visual work 'The Newborn' can be seen on page 20. The poem 'De Libelle' on page 21 is by Alexander van Elswijk. The book, 224 pages full of beautiful photos, special poems and fun information, is for sale via the website at Verhalenhuis Belvédère.

2021: The Newborn

The birth of a new creation, of a whole new era, of horrible unevitable losses but of brand new possibillities too. Mixed-media artwork 'The Newborn' (H25 x W30 x D05cm) was invited to participate in the-Art-Rotterdam-Project, which turns Cultural Platform 'Fenixloods' into a display case full of art and poetry. The project is organized by Artists Collective ´Werklicht´: Theo Huijgens, visual artist & Joz Knoop, citypoet. The intention is to laminate an image of the work of art with the accompanying poem side by side in an A3 format, so that it forms a unit. This merger is applied to the inside of the windows so that visitors can admire this amalgamation of art from outside. 2019: Opening expositie Douanehuisje

Opening door Nadîja Roza Broekhart, theatermaker & oprichter Hipsick Unusual Theatre én directeur cultureel platform Roodkapje Rotterdam. Opening van de kleine duo-tentoonstelling in het prachtig gelegen monumentale huisje, met uitzicht op de rivier, tijdens het Feminisme Festival Maassluis: duo-expo Textiel, Feminisme & Duurzaamheid met Jannie van Essen, textielkunstenaar. Foto Max van Essen. Tijdens het festival tevens de grote Trio-tentoonstelling in Museum Maassluis met Ida Brookhart, Willy Minderhoud en Gerda Ploeg.

2019: Feministisch Festival

In het jaar dat in Nederland 100 jaar kiesrecht voor vrouwen gevierd wordt, zijn de kunstwerken van Ida Brookhart onderdeel van de gevarieerde zomer expositie 'Sien, Vos & het Vrouwenhuis'.

Voor het eerst verblijven geëngageerde textiele mixed media objecten in Museum Maassluis. De kunstenaars -Ida Brookhart, Willy Minderhoud (keramiek) en Gerda Ploeg (geborduurde sculpturen)- hebben voor de tentoonstelling het thema 'Vrouw' in hun kunstwerken verwerkt. Tevens 3 gefilmde interviews met initiatiefnemers Vrouwenhuis door journalist Annemieke Vlier. Een stemhokje voor feministische zaken, foto's, plakboeken & een bibliotheek in een replica van het voormalige Vrouwenhuis.

De aanleiding voor de expo is de terugblik naar het ontstaan van de vrouwenbeweging in Maassluis tijdens de 2de feministische golf. Wat begon als een meidencafé in een jongerencentrum had als resultaat het 15-jaar functioneren van het Vrouwenhuis in de jaren 80 van de vorige eeuw.

Tijdens het Feministische Festival wordt tevens de 'Suffragettes' film in theater Koningshof vertoond. In het Douanehuisje is er de duo-tentoonstelling Textiel, Duurzaamheid & Feminisme. Op de zaterdagen geven vrouwen voorlichting/rondleidingen. Tot slot is er een lezing over Feminisme & Politiek door Ivonne de Groot in het Witte Kerkje.

2015: Sustainability

Ida Brookhart is guided by the idea of reincarnation, the intergenerational balance and the responsibility humans carry.Working with recycled materials has been an important topic for her creations. Most of the materials used are purchased at local markets and in ‘junkshops’. On her quests the materials will inspire her. Basic materials can be industrial waste, scrap textile, old knitted jumpers, rejected strings of wool, pre-owned dolls and vintage buttons from factory stock clearances. Like a beachcomber she also looks for stuff in the surrounding woods, along the river-side and on the North Sea beach. All places in cycling distance. She collects, selects and one day it will be transformed into something new. Her work results in a dynamic type of art which links the past to the present. 2015: Sachet Mixte magazine

Rotterdam region based Brookhart loves colours and she has a great admiration for the bold colour use of textile artist Sheila Hicks. Ida’s favourite artist however, is Wassily Kandinsky, most of all because of his sophisticated use of colours and shapes. Kandinsky’s Bauhaus textile artists group and their use of non-traditional materials has been an important influence. Their materials were mixed and build with textiles to challenge people’s perception.

2015: Kunstwerken Voor Water

Publicatie textielwerk Ida Brookhart in de 'Kunstwerken voor water' catalogus, waarin informatie over 19 (inter-) nationale kunstenaars. Brookhart werd geselecteerd om te exposeren in het Provinciehuis Utrecht ten behoeve van Wereld-Water-Dag-2015 . De titel van de expositie "War, Peace & Beauty" is gebaseerd op de transitie van de 'Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie'. Van een gebied met militaire functie via een periode van vrede naar recreatieve mogelijkheden. De 200 jaar oude militaire verdedigings-linie is nu dankzij 70 jaar vrede een oase van rust voor mens, dier en plant in een steeds dichter bevolkt gebied ten oosten van de Randstad. 2015: Post War Couple

Ida, a former teacher, uses her intuition and listens to the inner voice. She has always been attracted to the mystery and magic of life and finds astrology, psychology and symbols highly interesting and inspiring. The ideas of 'Eastern' philosophy guide her. So if you ask what inspires her she will answer it is from the supernatural, but at the same time Ida must admit that sometimes there is no clue at all. Take the ‘Post War Couple’ matter paintings. It took her a while to understand that it was about her parents and their PW-trauma’s.

2015: Oranje Dryade

Volgens de oude tradities is een dryade de ziel van de boom en het hoogst ontwikkelde wezen uit het plantenrijk. In de Griekse mythologie zijn de dryades sterfelijk. Als de boom beschadigd wordt, dan lijdt de boomnimf en als de boom sterft betekent dat de dood van de nimf. Voor de oude Germanen waren de boomgeesten de verbinding naar de Goddelijke wereld. Boomgeesten zijn in alle oude religies vrouwelijk en staan symbool voor vruchtbaarheid. Sculptuur 2015 met boomstronk, vintage wol & andere garens, wielen en vintage porseleinen popje (80x34x45cm).
