The abstract artworks of Ida Brookhart are created without a preconceived plan. She engages in an intuitive process so that her mind and hands can enter into a dialogue with the raw materials she usually scrapes together. The idea gradually unfolds and during the creative process it becomes clear what the theme is.
The multimedia (wall) objects (installations, embroidery, origami and soft sculptures) are hybrid, so that the viewer can also determine what the idea is. Traditional techniques such as crochet, origami, embroidery and weaving are not shunned. The colors support the expressiveness of the material.
Brookhart likes to experiment with vintage wool, textiles, buttons, beads, dolls, paper and unusual materials. The limitation of working with second-hand materials is seen as a challenge. The upcycled 'waste materials' are transformed into works of art and the question is always what they stand for.
