This Summer Roodkapje explores the great outdoors of Rotterdam’s inner city urban jungle. From 15-24 July the crew sets camp in Park Pompenburg. ROOT CAMP is their temporary base in the heart of Rotterdam. For 10 days Roodkapje showcases cutting-edge art, music and film, while Burgertrut serves tasty burgers and drinks. They open their Radicals fan-shop and host a range of outdoor activities, including workshops and an Iguanarama-BBQ, hosted by local noiseniks Iguana Death Cult.
Roodkapje has always been a nomadic organization. They moved from Witte de Withstraat to Meent to Teilingerstraat, organized events in the illustrious Baja, in caravans on Schouwburgplein and on the 20th floor of the Hofpoort. In recent years, Burgertrut followed a different path. In July 2016 their paths cross again at Root Camp, a preview towards a more permanent reunion. www.roodkapje.org

Vijf jaar geleden richtte Maria Westerbos de Plastic Soup Foundation (PSF) op, nav gesprekken met de Amerikaan Charles Moore, de zeezeiler die midden op de Grote Oceaan plastic zag drijven.
Internationaal is de PSF met name bekend geworden door haar campagne Beat the Microbead, tegen plastic in verzorgingsproducten.
Westerbos is er in geslaagd van de PSF een professionele milieuorganisatie te maken met oud-minister Jacqueline Cramer als voorzitter bestuur. Een steeds groter team medewerkers maakt al het werk mogelijk; o.a. overleg parlementariërs of zoeken naar sponsors. De PSF heeft de afgelopen jaren samengewerkt met een keur aan bedrijven, organisaties en gemeenten, ook internationaal.
De plastic soep wordt internationaal erkend als een van de ernstigste milieuproblemen waarmee de wereld te maken heeft.

Gabrielle Marie studied Decorative Art & Craft at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, including textile art. She has finally specialized in Digital & Photo Art and is freelance lecturer. Gabrielle also designs textile jewelry and embroidery. In her Tableaux Vivants -stories from the (living) dollhouse- she tells about the secret world of puppets, set in a somewhat nostalgic staging. The artist is also working on a project of short films about "small worlds". Additionally Gabrielle assists theater workshops at gallery WERKLICHT in Rotterdam. Also, this versatile artist is co-organizer for the alternative art route of Art Rotterdam.

het Institute for the Arts Arnhem, de AKI Enschede en het Berlage Instituut Rotterdam. Hij staat aan het hoofd van Studio Roosegaarde, een ontwerpstudio met
vestigingen in Rotterdam en Shanghai.
Roosegaarde is betrokken bij New Dutch Digital Design, een
kunstenaarscollectief dat de grenzen tussen de mens en cyberspace aftast. Hij
maakt van smog juwelen en vindt in samenwerking met zijn team revolutionaire
snelwegen uit. Een internationaal gelauwerd kunstenaar/ontwerper, uitgeroepen
tot Young Global Leader bij het World Economic Forum in Davos. De creatieve
revolutionair(36), die met een spannende mix van kunst en ontwerp laat zien hoe de
wereld groener en beter gemaakt kan worden. Een succesvolle kunstenaar/ designer waar Nederland trots op mag zijn en waar menig kunstenaar van kan leren! Het kunstenaarschap van Roosegaarde is modern en zijn
werk is innovatief. Hij werkt samen met wetenschappers, planologen
en ministeries. Of de resultaten kunst zijn of iets anders maakt Roosegaarde
niet uit, hij wil de wereld beter maken. Hij trekt de toekomst naar zich toe en
reikt ons de middelen aan om die te ervaren.

Mohammed Arafat legt het uit in de documentaire ‘De Slag om de Klerewereld’. De goedkope jurken moeten worden
verscheept, mooi gefotografeerd, het model moet worden betaald, de fotograaf,
art director, visagist, studio. De foto's zijn op de website geplaatst en
iemand schreef er een wervend tekstje bij. Er is geadverteerd en er is een
reclamefilmpje gemaakt, dat in prime- time op televisie is uitgezonden!!!!
Het énige dat goedkoop is, is dat de jurk niet in de winkel wordt verkocht, maar alleen in de webshop waardoor je geen winkelhuur en salaris van personeel hoeft mee te rekenen. Al zitten er natuurlijk ook mensen achter die webshop, om al die 1500 jurken in plastic te verpakken, er een doosje omheen te vouwen, het label met adresgegevens van de koper er op te plakken en, oja, ze te laten bezorgen.

hoeveelheid afval mensen laten nadenken over wat ze weggooien en
erop wijzen dat je er iets mee kunt doen. Tien jaar geleden volgde ze de opleiding
‘kunstenaar in de klas’. Sindsdien geeft ze workshops, lessen en staat op
festivals. In de jaren negentig ontstond haar
wens om een eigen natuurhistorisch museum te maken. Ze startte met het
maken van beestjes van afval. Haar focus ligt op basisschoolkinderen. Het is mooi om te zien dat wanneer
kinderen iets gemaakt hebben, ze er meteen mee gaan spelen. Ze stimuleert
kinderen altijd om zelf afval te verzamelen en daar mee te knutselen, zodat ze
zien wat ze weggooien. Kinderen zijn vaak verbaasd als ze erachter komen
hoeveel afval er is. Met hun school hebben ze drinkpakjes verzameld, die als
legoblokjes gebruikt worden. Zo worden ze bewust hoeveel drinkpakjes er worden
weggegooid. In Carolien’s atelier zijn allerlei creaties te bewonderen:
beestjes van lampjes of flessen, vlaggetjes van plastic tassen en broodtrommels
van lege videodozen. Het gaat haar om het omdenken, dat er op een andere

daan roosegaarde: retailtheater
Daan Roosegaarde: ondernemer, kunstenaar en visionair. Op zijn naam staan tal van succesvolle projecten die helpen stad en land(bouw) op ongewone wijze te reguleren binnen een snel veranderende maatschappij. Op het Future Green City evenement sprak hij over zijn projecten en zijn visie. Roosegaarde werkt zijn idee zo uit dat het concreet en vatbaar blijft, maar blijft niet hangen in het conservatieve. Vanuit deze visie zijn al verschillende succesvolle projecten onstaan, zoals het verlichte Van Gogh-fietspad en de anti-smog toren die in Rotterdam en in Beijing gerealiseerd is.
Samen met zijn team ontwikkelde de kunstenaar de Lotus Dome, een lichtkunstwerk dat een hele nieuwe dimensie toevoegt aan een kerkgebouw dat bijna geen bezoekers meer trok. Het kunstwerk zorgde ervoor dat de kerk een nieuwe invulling kreeg, namelijk die van een interactieve attractie.
Roosegaarde herkent de 'ja-maars' die bij een gedurfd nieuw concept komen kijken. Hij geeft dan ook toe dat een idee nooit zonder worstelen tot stand komt. Toch juicht hij ongewone innovatie toe. "Als je een probleem ziet in de maatschappij, wacht dan niet tot het zichzelf oplost. "Hou het klein. Alles wordt anders, zegt Lidewij Edelkoort in haar
trendpresentatie voor zomer 2017. Ze verwacht nieuwe systemen van produceren en
consumeren en ziet kleur, vorm en materiaal zich bevrijden van
conventies.

De beiges willen op chique wijze toegepast worden in rijke stoffen voor
couture. Rood daarentegen wil van de rode loper af en een rol vervullen in
active wear. Blauw wil frivool zijn en zich lenen voor decoratie. Opvallend is
dat de kleurpaletten voor het eerst in lange tijd veel warmer zijn: kaneel en
nootmuskaat en veel roden. Roze blijft, maar wordt veel etnischer vertaald.
Bruin zal een zeer belangrijke kleur worden volgens Lidewij. Dat heeft twee
redenen. Ten eerste vraagt een warmer palet om een warmere basiskleur. De
tweede reden is heel opvallend: zwart is op zijn retour. Wit heeft een belangrijke
symboolfunctie, het staat voor vrede, neutraliteit en spiritualiteit. Lidewij
merkt op dat we behoefte hebben aan een nieuw soort verbondenheid, een soort
religie. Mensen gaan zoeken naar nieuwe vormen van samenleven, van
bezinning. Daarom zal de hang naar puurheid en eenvoud aanhouden.
In het interieur zien we
dit terug. Lidewij noemt deze 'zero, beyond minimalism'. De ronde tafel
maakt zijn rentree. Gebogen hout en rotan zien we terug in meubelcollecties,
evenals andere gevlochten vezels. Inspiratie wordt opgedaan in science en outer
space.
De
opleving van handgemaakt heeft er voor gezorgd dat er weer wordt
geïnvesteerd in het behouden van technieken. Jonge ontwerpers en makers
beheersen oude (en nieuwe!) ambachten steeds meer. Vooral materialen profiteren
hiervan, Lidewij liet veel fibers zien voor zomer 2017, zoals raffia, hennep en
linnen. Hierin komt die nieuwe basiskleur bruin goed tot zijn recht. Die wordt
heel uitgesproken toegepast, in franjes, in vachtjes, in losse weefsels

Most of my ancestors are unkown to me. For centuries they lived in a far away part of the world. Their beloved beautiful city, lay on the foothills of a mountain. Their region was popular for its mineral recources. People came from everywhere to cure in the sanatoria, to inhale the healthy mountain air and to drink several kind of mineral water.
Ofcours there are stories about their suffering and about their power to survive, but this unfinished artwork cannot express more, because all their secrets remain secrets.

Deze geborduurde ballen worden 'Temari' genoemd. De oma van fotografe NanaAkua heeft toen ze met pensioen ging de techniek geleerd en meer dan 500 van deze Temari gemaakt.
Temari, wat 'hand-bal' in het japans betekent, zijn geborduurde ballen gemaakt van zijde van oude kimono's. De kunstvorm is ontstaan in China en kwam in de 7e eeuw naar Japan. Deze kunstwerkjes zijn bedoeld om de ontvanger een gelukkig leven toe te wensen.

It was an interesting 3D-textiles course on wearable origami techniques by Belgium based visual artist Dr Tine De Ryusser.
Tine's first degree at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Antwerp taught her jewellery techniques. She then went on to the Royal College of Art in London for her MA. There she invented an innovative folding material: a combination of metal and textiles. Her PhD-research was a further development of the material. She investigated production methods and folding patterns as well as the design possibilities for wearables. Tina teaches at Lincoln University and as a visiting lecturer at a range of colleges.

antoine peters, designer & project handwork
In the context of the Zeeuws Museum project HANDWORK the designer did research into the nineteenth century yak. This folded and tightly cut female garment, part of Zeeland's regional dress, consists out of a single piece of fabric which is handled as a whole. Antoine Peters unravels the mysteries of this ancient folding technique and makes it visible in his comfortable unisex ‘yaksweater’. Peters examines the local garment and dives into its history, but also gets instructions of Mrs Vos from Walcheren. Mrs Vos demonstrates how the jacket consists out of one uncut piece of fabric that is folded and stitched entirely, leaving no centimetre textile wasted. The reusability of the jacket, which can be taken apart again and again, doesn’t really make the garment that comfortable. Check out the whole story via this short Dutch documentary.

DOESBURG- Dat het zelf maken van kleding weer in de lift zit, was te merken op de nationale textiel manifestatie die zaterdag in de Martinikerk werd gehouden. Ondanks een behoorlijke entreeprijs was het erg druk op de beurs.
Uit heel Nederland waren standhouders met de meest uiteenlopende producten op textiel gebied present. Natuurlijk heel veel materiaal om zelf mee aan de slag te gaan. Van complete schapenvachten om zelf wol te spinnen tot de meest luxe wilde zijde garens. Ook waren er workshops, zodat men eerst kon proberen of het lukte, en met hulp van de standhouders kwamen er leuke creaties tot stand. Zelfs voor de kinderen was er een workshop armband maken. Breien en haken is op dit moment weer hot en dat was te merken aan de vele mooie soorten wol en katoen die er waren. Ook kant en klare artikelen en kleding waren te koop en degenen die op zoek waren naar mooie en aparte kleding, waarvan er veelal maar één was, konden hier hun hart ophalen.
Een mooie en bijzondere expositie van en door een aantal kunstenaars van wie werk gepubliceerd is in het boek 'Textielleeft!' van Ellen Bakker trok veel bekijks.
Een demonstratie 'haute couture borduren' van Saskia ter Welle uit Doesburg, sprong ook in het oog. Gepubliceerd in de Regiobode online 28-09-2015

De textielcollectie van het Fries Museum vormt de basis voor de expositie. Daarnaast haalt het museum een aantal spectaculaire bruiklenen
naar Leeuwarden.
De tentoonstelling dompelt je onder in de wondere wereld van het breien. Soms
zelfs letterlijk, want in 'City of Stitches' van de Deense kunstenares Isabel
Berglund, word je onderdeel van een volledig handgebreide ruimte. Je kunt
ingebreide kledingstukken aantrekken en kunst van (inter-) nationale brei kunstenaars bewonderen. Daarbij geven twaalf kijkkasten je een inkijkje in de geschiedenis van het breien. Elk kastje toont een
belangrijk collectiestuk in een gebreide historische setting.

Lidewij Edelkoort, misschien wel de belangrijkste trendwatcher ter wereld, werd in 1999 directeur van de Design Academy in Eindhoven. Ze maakte de Design Academy wereldberoemd en de Dutch Design Week werd een internationale trekpleister, in de voormalige Philips-fabrieken. Edelkoort vertrok in 2008 met ruzie uit Eindhoven. Nu is ze er weer terug met een tentoonstelling van haar eigen designcollectie in
De Kazerne, Paradijslaan 2-8, Eindhoven. Het gaat hier meer om kunst dan om functionaliteit, met veel stoelen die niet bedoeld zijn om op te zitten. Maar het is een collectie van inmiddels vooraanstaande ontwerpers, die al als jong talent door Lidewij omarmd zijn. In De Kazerne worden tevens bijzondere de 3D-geprinte schoenen tentoongesteld.
